Balcony glulam – for high demands on dimensional stability

DUO® beam (two parallel glued squared timber) and TRIO® beam (three timbers) are also referred to as balcony glulam.

They may only be manufactured by a quality-tested and certified glued timber construction company. This guarantees a lasting high quality and structural safety.

As with solid structural timber the individual pieces of wood are kiln dried to 15 percent moisture content, graded according to strength and joined lengthwise by finger jointing. After gluing, the finished building elements are planned and their edges are chamfered. The average cross-sections for Duo beams are between 80 mm x 140 mm and 160 mm x 160 mm; for Trio beams between 180 mm x 180 mm and 240 mm x 180 mm. Standard cross-sections are produced in lengths of up to 18 metres in spruce. Other softwoods are also possible.

These construction elements are used where visible surfaces have to meet high design demands. The solid timber character is retained since the glued joints are small and color-neutral. They are also suitable elements if the construction elements have to display dimensional stability (e.g. in outer walls, facades). Duo beams and TRIO® beams can be used indoors and for covered outdoor applications with no direct weathering.

Glued-laminated timber (BSH) should be used for larger cross-sections or lengths.
